ALU’s mission is to provide accessible, career-focused and lifelong learning opportunities to students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The Accrediting Commission is a charter member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), the leading non-governmental recognition for accrediting associations. A national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation, CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.

General Studies Faculty Highlight

Dr. Joy Klotz

Dr. Klotz has been teaching higher education courses both onsite and online for about 20 years. She loves teaching. Over the course of her career, she has earned a PhD in Adult and Post-secondary Education, two master’s degrees (Education / MBA), and a post-master’s certificate in college teaching. Education is one of the things she is passionate about, and she enjoys being a part of every student’s educational experience. She considers herself a life-long learner, and loves to acquire new skills, abilities, and understandings.

Joy also strives to be involved in other ways at ALU. She loves course design and development and has designed numerous courses for ALU and other universities. In her free time, Joy spends time with her family. She and her husband have been married for 25 years and have three daughters who range in age from 6-18.
