Veterans and Current Military Service Members G.I. Bill Eligibility

The Abraham Lincoln University faculty and staff offer our sincere appreciation to the veterans and current service members who have selflessly and courageously served honorably in the United States military. You have earned education benefits for your service and sacrifices that may be applied to earn your Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.

The following information is provided to assist you in contacting the VA to inquire about your eligibility for GI Bill education benefits.

Step One:

To find out if you are eligible, please call the VA and speak with an education representative:
  • The toll free number is 888.442.4551 (888.GI Bill 1)
  • Enter number one (1), then enter zero (0) to speak with a representative
  • For GI Bill information, visit http://www.gibill.va.gov

Step Two:

Ask your VA representative about:
  1. Your VA file number
  2. The education program for which you are eligible
  3. VA Form 22-1990 – Application for VA Education Benefits (Cert. of Eligibility)
  4. VA Form 22-1995 – Request for Change of Place of Training, if applicable
  5. Combining military Tuition Assistance with VA education benefits, if applicable
  6. Any other forms or information that you may need to enroll into the Juris Doctor program

Step Three:

If the VA determines that you are eligible, please provide the following information:
  1. Name (First, Middle, Last):
  2. VA File Number:
  3. Are you currently on active duty: Y/N
  4. What is your branch of service: Army/Navy/Air Force/ Marines/Coast Guard
  5. Are you: Army Reserve/National Guard
  6. Which VA education program are you entitled to:
    1. Chapter 30
    2. Chapter 31
    3. Chapter 33, Post 9/11
    4. Chapter 35
    5. Chapter 1606
    6. Chapter 1607
  7. Copy of VA Form 22-1990; DD214 Discharge Notice; others, if applicable
  8. Provide all military and civilian transcripts for transfer credit evaluation – the VA may not pay to repeat courses successfully completed at other schools
