SOC Military Student Bill of Rights | Abraham Lincoln University

SOC Military Student Bill of Rights | Abraham Lincoln University

Abraham Lincoln University is a military-friendly school, offering education opportunities that benefit active-duty military members in accordance to the Military Student Bill of Rights set out by the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) Consortium. So what exactly are these rights, and what do they mean to potential ALU students? Read on after the jump to learn more.

The SOC Consortium has high standards for applicant schools. In order to enforce those standards, the SOC’s Military Student Bill of Rights protects service men and women, veterans and their spouses by ensuring that all schools offering programs for military education abide by these rules:

  1. Schools must provide accurate information about a school’s programs, requirements, accreditation, and potential impact on course transferability
  2. Schools must provide access to basic college/university information and fees without disclosure of student personal information
  3. Schools must provide educational planning and career guidance without high-pressure registration and enrollment efforts from institutions
  4. Schools must provide clear and complete explanations of course/program enrollment procedures and all resulting financial obligations
  5. Schools must provide the opportunity to explore, without coercion, all financial aid options before signing up for student loans or other financial assistance
  6. Schools must provide accurate scholarship information, free of misleading “scholarship” offers based on military Tuition Assistance.
  7. Schools must provide appropriate academic screening and course placement based on student readiness
  8. Schools must provide appropriate, accessible academic and student support services
  9. Schools must provide clearly defined institutional “drop/add” and withdrawal policies and procedures including information about the impact of military duties (e.g., mobilization, activation, temporary duty assignments) on their academic standing and financial responsibilities
  10. Schools must provide clearly defined grievance/appeals processes

As a military-friendly institution for online distance learning, Abraham Lincoln University meets all of these stringent standards.

In addition to being a participating member in the DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) Catalog providing students with a listing for programs, ALU accepts educational Tuition Assistance benefits via the GoArmyEd, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, and MyCAA programs.
