The number of online law schools today continues to increase. This is due to two main reasons. First, is the fact that more and more employers are accepting the validity of education which is obtained from online law schools. Two, is because more and more individuals are looking for an opportunity to obtain law education without the need to drop all their current commitments. Abraham Lincoln University was one of the very first law schools to go online. ALU was founded as a correspondence law school in 1996 and thanks to the Internet, began offering online classes shortly thereafter.

If you are looking for an online law school, you will be facing many options, each with diverse selling points and advantages. So how do you know which one you should choose? What should be your basis for crossing out other schools in your list?

  • Proper Accreditation. Online law schools should also comply with certain standards so that the money and effort of their students would not go down the drain. Schools with DETC accreditation are great options since this means that you would not have trouble in finding a job later on after graduation.

  • Curriculum. Studying law also means specializing in a particular field. You might want to ask yourself about the nature of the job that you intend to do after finishing the degree. Are you leaning on working for corporate law office? Do you want to venture into criminal law instead? Once you have determined what your calling is, check the specific aspects of the curriculum to see whether each term will direct you to the path that you want to take.

  • Schedule. Though the program would be conducted online, it is still necessary to check the schedule of the classes, as well as the entire curriculum. Mostly, the classes and lecture would be conducted online. This means that you can access the videos and learning tools at a time that is most convenient for you. However, there are some occasions when you might need to attend in-campus sessions or other requirements which will require you to personally go to the campus. Check out what the schools has planned out for the entire term and the see if this will fit perfectly with your schedule.

  • Eligibility for Bar Exams. You need to understand that different states within the US have varying regulations when it comes to qualifying law school graduates. Even the opportunity to take the bar exam for licensure have plenty of restrictions. Before you even apply for an online law school, make sure that the laws in the state where you intend to practice in the future recognize the credibility of the school. See whether those who graduated from the same online law school were able to take the bar exam.

  • Alumni Records. Aside from inquiring about the curriculum of the school, you might want to know more about the possible job opportunities that await you. You do want to put your knowledge in practice after getting the online law school degree, right? It is never wrong to check out the current profession of the school's alumni.

These are some of the aspects which you need to double-check before enrolling in an online law school. That way, your intentions to switch to a new career path would come true in no time. Or perhaps you are interested in opening your own practice to assist with family law or civil cases.
